Luxury Chauffeur: Getting the Phone Ringing with Google Ads

Our client is a luxury chauffeuring business serving corporate clients, airport transfers, and premium event transportation. When they approached PPC Kingdom, Performance Max campaigns were already running — but the phone simply wasn’t ringing. The enquiries that did come through were often from people looking for a taxi, not a chauffeur. We rebuilt the strategy from the ground up, with call volume, call quality, and local intent at the heart of everything.

The Challenge

Despite having Google Ads campaigns active, the client wasn’t generating the calls the business needed to grow. Two problems were at the root of it.

The first was intent contamination. Without proper exclusions in place, campaigns were surfacing ads to people searching for taxis, minicabs, and budget ride options — audiences with no intention of booking a premium chauffeur. Every click from this segment was wasted spend pulling the algorithm in the wrong direction.

The second was measurement. Calls weren’t being tracked comprehensively, meaning the campaign had no reliable signal to optimise toward. Without visibility of both calls from ads and calls from the website, Google’s automation was flying blind.

The Solution

1. Optimising for Calls — All of Them

We implemented dual call tracking: call extensions within the ads for immediate phone contact, and website call tracking to capture leads who browsed before calling. Both were fed into Google Ads as conversion actions, giving the campaigns a complete picture of call-driven enquiries and a meaningful signal to learn from.

2. Negative Lists and Brand Exclusions

To address the taxi problem, we built a structured broad match negative keyword list targeting budget and on-demand transport language: taxi, cab, minicab, ride, cheap, and variations thereof. We also applied brand exclusions to prevent ads appearing alongside ride-hailing platforms. This ensured Performance Max competed for the right audience from the outset, rather than burning budget on searches that would never convert into a chauffeur booking.

3. Search Campaigns with Tight Exact Match Targeting

Alongside Performance Max, we ran a complementary Search campaign built on exact match keywords. Where PMax handles discovery at scale, Search gave us precise control over the highest-value queries — terms where the intent is unambiguous and the caller is ready to book. The two campaigns worked together: PMax finding the right audience, Search locking in every high-intent search with pinpoint accuracy.

4. Asset Testing Around the Premium Experience

We built and tested asset variations across corporate travel, airport transfers, and event hire. Messaging centred on reliability, professionalism, and the clear distinction between a chauffeur and a taxi consistently outperformed generic copy. Assets were reviewed and rotated on a rolling basis.

The Results

By combining a restructured Performance Max with a tightly controlled Search campaign, PPC Kingdom turned a campaign generating the wrong enquiries into a consistent source of high-quality calls:

  • A significant increase in inbound call volume from both ads and the website.
  • Elimination of wasted spend on taxi-intent searches through structured negatives and brand exclusions.
  • Precise coverage of the highest-value queries through exact match Search running alongside PMax.
  • A first-party data audience strategy guiding the algorithm toward the right local customers.
  • Creative clarity on the messaging that converts — positioning the client as a premium service, not a commodity.

The phone now rings with the right people.
